Condoleezza Rice and Aretha Franklin Perform in Philly
Condoleezza Rice and Aretha Franklin may have more in common than you think. Rice, a classical pianist, teamed up with the Queen of Soul for a concert at the Philadelphia Mann Music Center on Tuesday.
Rice remembered the two of them meeting while at a White House function.
“We were just talking and chatting and she said ‘You play, don’t you?’ And I said, ‘Yes.’ And she said we should do something together,” Rice said, according to Eurweb.com.
Franklin sang some of her most famous songs such as “I Say A Little Prayer” and “My Country Tis of Thee,” while Rice played. Franklin also sang a selection from Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor and a few melodies from her upcoming album “A Woman Falling Out of Love.” – Diasia Ellerbee
More than 8,000 guests attended the once in a lifetime musical performance that lasted three hours. The night also included a surprise duet with Franklin and Ronald Isley.
Proceeds from the show will support children in urban areas and promote awareness for music and the arts.
