Mary J. Blige Prepares for College
After selling millions of albums worldwide, earning nine Grammy awards and starting a foundation to help young women, Mary J. Blige has something new to smile about: her high school diploma.
The R&B queen tearfully shared her excitement of receiving her honorary diploma from the City of New York and being accepted to Howard University, during her “Good Morning America” performance last week.
Blige, 39, was accepted to the historically Black college after completing her GED and plans to get enroll in 2014. She dropped out of high school in 11th grade, and regretted it throughout her successful career.
The singer joins a line of famous faces that have returned to school. “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” star Cassi Davis completed her degree from Spelman College last year, after dropping out 21 years before during her last semester.
Congrats to Mary, and all women who have returned to school!
