Fantasia Shares Her Story and Talks Suicide Attempt
We were saddened to hear of Fantasia Barrino suicide attempt. But not totally surpised. As strong as black women are taught to be, we are still human and susceptible to the stresses of life. Writer asha bandele reported in our “Dazed and Confused: Depression’s Effect on Black Women” story that admitting depression is not an admission of weakness nor in turn a lack of faith. It’s an admission of strength. Strength in taking care of yourself, strength in building a stronger you, strength in believing one of our mantras — putting you, first! As Fantasia works to slay her demons, we hope her story is a wake up call for more black women to get the help they need to be here for our families.
