Walk New York to L.A.: Let the Music Move You
The right music can turn a slog around the park into a revved-up workout that makes you wonder where the time went. What’s the song you love to move to, the one that helps you find your second wind, dig deep or settle into a relaxing groove? Then make a playlist that will make your workout more fun.
Find the beat in your favorite song, and count the beats over 60 seconds. That’s the beats per minute. Use Best Workout Music to find more songs like your faves by BPM and music type. You can even buy music there.
Use these ranges as a guide for your workout mix:
- Stroll (beginner): 115 – 118 beats/steps per minute
- Brisk walk (intermediate): 118 – 126 beats/steps per minute
- Fast walk (advanced): 130 – 138 beats/steps per minute
- Power walk: 137+ beats/steps per minute
- Run at a 10-minute mile pace: 150 beats/steps per minute
- Run at a 9-minute mile pace: 160 beats/steps per minute
- Run at an 8-minute mile pace: 170 beats/steps per minute
- Run at a 6.8-minute mile pace: 180 beats/steps per minute
Best Workout Music will also let you download demo software that will calibrate your music to your personal pace or order the software for $27.

I love music when I work out, never go without it. I use a site called GymDJ to find new workout music. They are similar to your site mentioned above except are free to use, have some free downloads, allow you to request songs and you can download the songs from popular sites such as itunes
