Heart & Soul chatted with celebrity stylist Shornell McNeal, getting her tips to having great-looking hair this summer. Today Shornell is participating in Sally Beauty’s second annual Pop-up Salon & Lounge in New Orleans, where she will be working alongside Monica “Mo” Stevens and Celebrity Makeup Artist Tiffany Ervin. Shornell is a master cosmetologist, hairstylist and owner of Salon Shoa in Lithonia, GA. She has worked with a host of celebrities, musicians and TV personalities, including The Braxtons, Cynthia Bailey, Kenya Moore, Tyrese Gibson, Vanessa A. Williams and more. Shornell’s specialties include “ready to wear” short cuts, extensions, weaves and editorial hair.
Q: What is your favorite hair trend/cut this summer?
A: Short cut with fun colors.
Q: Top hair color for the summer, in your opinion?
A: I love the Rose Gold color. It’s a universal color that can pretty much go with all shades and skin tones.
Q: How do I protect my hair from the sun?
A: Moisturize. You need to use moisturizing treatments with an upheld trim. And, drink plenty of water — it will keep you hydrated.
