TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS

I’m a functional strength and conditioning coach. I utilize corrective exercise, mobility, three-dimensional movement, resistance training and nutrition to help people meet their goals. The techniques I use have allowed me to work with lots of people ranging from athletes (amateur and pro), celebrities and special population. Educating the people I work with is a very big component as well.

WHAT IS YOUR RECIPE TO STAYING SO FIT?

My recipe for staying so fit is staying active and maintaining consistency with healthy eating habits. I played sports all my life and have been weight training for 20 years., As I’ve gotten older I’ve become a lot better with nutrition which helps me recover better from my workouts. I believe the recipe for anyone staying fit or getting healthier is staying active. The human life span was longer with less technology, transportation and multi-million dollar workout facilities. Why? Better food sources and humans didn’t have as many options available that promoted a sedentary habits.

Having people I can call with a lot more experience than myself has helped tremendously. Kim Carruthers, Carlos Woods and Mike Guevara have well over 40 years of experience in this industry. They’re always available to educate me and correct me when I make mistakes.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO THE FITNESS INDUSTRY?

After leaving UPS, I got a job in membership sales at a fitness facility. I worked my way up to general manager and was very successful in corporate sales. Shortly thereafter, the owner sold the franchise. I was left with no income so I began training as a means of survival. I never imagined that it would have lead me to be in this position and allowed me to work with some of the people that I have worked with, especially since I was originally just doing this until I found a job.

WHAT IS  YOUR UNIQUE APPROACH WHEN TRAINING WOMEN?

There aren’t any secrets in fitness. What makes my approach unique is finding innovative ways to apply the basics when training women. Every individual is already unique, so tailoring my coaching to meet each individual’s goal also makes my approach unique.

WHAT IS IT LIKE TRAINING PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES?

It is very humbling. They are elite and play sports at the highest level, but yet, they look to me to help them perform better, recover, decrease the risk of injury, and stay motivated. Because it is such a competitive field and the industry is always changing, I have to constantly educate myself, evolve, and adapt new methods and ways to increase the chances of their success.

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND TO BE THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

When I first started out it was managing time, dealing with disappointment, discouragement, and remaining resilient in spite of circumstances. Unpredictability of my schedule,  having to sacrifice time with family and friends.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR?

Brace yourself. Focus on the end goal in spite of setbacks. Learn how to forecast the market so that you can gage the direction in which you need to go in order to be successful. Stay positive, have a positive support system, keep like minded company, and always read.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR BUSINESS IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS?

Thriving, having an online platform that educates the public on health and fitness, traveling bicoastal as well as internationally to work with clients and work on fitness campaigns. I would also like to do fitness modeling, stunt work, and create fitness patents that can be utilized to help people achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles.
