The Black Women’s Health Imperative is the only national organization dedicated to improving the health and wellness of our nation’s Black women and girls—physically, emotionally and financially.
We identify the most pressing health issues and invest in the best of the best strategies, partners and organizations to reduce mortality from chronic diseases, advocate for reproductive justice and ensure women have access to health insurance and quality health care.
We’ve invested $20 million to prevent unnecessary deaths from diabetes, cancer and HIV/AIDS, to broaden access to reproductive care for women in need and to advocate for policies that promote women’s health. The future looks bright. Over the next five years, we’ll invest another $25 million in 10 cities across the U.S.
• IndexUS will provide the first-ever index of Black women’s health that analyzes 20 years of data on healthy Black women. The Index will be used as a roadmap to determine and prioritize the value of investments in women’s health.
• Access. Coverage. Action ensures women have the tools to obtain health insurance, use their insurance coverage wisely and understand the connection to lifetime financial decision-making and stability for their families.
• Grab Your Girls and Go offers a suite of model prevention strategies that empower women to significantly reduce their risk for chronic disease.
• My Sister’s Keeper combines personal technology and big data analytics to teach college women to advocate for their reproductive rights and avoid behaviors that lead to college dropout.
