A fierce campaign is underway to put one day aside to celebrate FAMILY. The petition, started by The ProActive Family and currently circulating via social media, calls on the Obama Administration to issue a proclamation designating the second Saturday of every August as Family Day. This national holiday will simply celebrate togetherness. Currently touting over 2,000 supporters, the group aims to take the petition directly to Washington 100,000 supporters strong by November!

The people we love create our family. On Family Day, all Americans are challenged to celebrate their unique family by planning a family strengthening practice for the day. Nationally, the group is challenging local communities, civic and religious organizations to organize communal celebrations that revitalize the spirit of togetherness throughout our great nation.
“It all starts with family. Family Day is more than just a holiday. It represents a shift in priorities for our nation and a reminder that no matter our race, gender, or sexuality we are one American family,” said petition organizer and founder of The ProActive Family, Eugenia Blackmon, Esq.
Support for Family Day is mounting. Celebrities Yandy Smith (Reality TV Star) and Trevor Jackson (Actor/Musician) have gone on record as official supporters. Other celebs, like Common (Actor/Rapper/Activist) and NE-YO (Singer/Songwriter/Actor) have also shown their support via social media. UWG, the nation’s longest-standing multicultural agency, has signed on as a corporate supporter. Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Inc. a fraternity comprised of over 800 chapters and more than 150,000 members, joined as a community supporter. Once formed, The ProActive Family looks to continuously engage and inspire American citizens to put family first through the use of social media and online tools addressing family issues.
