About South Side Help Center




Founded in June 1987, South Side Help Center (SSHC) is purposed to help people of all ages embrace a lifestyle of prevention against mental, physical and social ills by providing positive, healthy alternatives so that community residents can lead productive lives. Some of the milestones over the past twenty-plus years include:
~ 1992-1993 Peer Educators’ Award
~ 1996 Launched Church AIDS Initiative
~ 2000 Launched Violence Prevention Program
~ 2000 Officially Launched Capacity Building Services
~ 2000 Hosted “Illinois Women Preventing HIV conference”
~ 2003 Implemented Housing Advocacy Program
~ 2004 Launched CAN-TV Monthly Program
~ 2008 Lights On After-School Event

SSHC purpose and legacy is in serving the people of the community. We actualize our mission of “Providing people with positive and healthy alternatives” through many programs and services. Some of them include:
