The Center for Black Women’s Wellness

People Helping Each Other

The Center for Black Women’s Wellness (CBWW) is a community-based, non-profit organization that provides free and low cost services that move black women toward physical, mental, and economic health. Located in Atlanta, Georgia, CBWW has long understood the myriad of issues that impact Black women’s health–including poverty, lack of access to affordable healthcare, and lifestyle choices–and has been a trailblazer in its approaches to address them.
The Center for Black Women’s Wellness uses a holistic approach that considers the totality of a person’s well-being–physical, mental/emotional, and economic. Services include a low cost clinic with an emphasis on prevention, early detection and treatment of health conditions before they arise; and culturally appropriate health education programs to address topics such as diabetes management, cardiovascular disease prevention, and breast health. CBWW also provides support to pregnant women in need of prenatal care and other services to help ensure a healthy pregnancy; works with youth and their parents to tackle teen pregnancy; and provides micro-business training to low to moderate income women to increase their economic self sufficiency.
This year, the Center for Black Women’s Wellness is proud to celebrate 25 years of impact on Atlanta’s women and families. In recognition of the over 10,000 individuals served through its programs and services, CBWW plans to commemorate this important milestone while looking towards the future.
“We are proud and thankful to celebrate 25 years and to be involved in healthcare during such an important time in this country.” says Jemea Dorsey, CEO of the Center for Black Women’s Wellness. “When you empower Black women to take charge of their health, and provide support along the journey, it results in healthier families and communities.”
