What was it that inspired you to become an actor?

I always enjoyed storytelling and entertaining my friends and family but I never took it serious. It wasn’t until I had a host of jobs that I absolutely despised that I made the decision to go to college. After doing a stage production of August Wilson’s “FENCES”, I decided that acting was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

Tell us about your current role.

My characters name is Calvin Rodney. He’s an all around good guy who owns his own real estate company. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by two openly gay fathers (white), Calvin had to endure a lot of hardships growing up. Some of his mannerisms and life choices are a direct result of how he was raised which presents an issue for the woman who he is interested in by the name Sabrina (played by Novi Brown).

What type of preparation does it take to maintain in this industry?

To become an actor you must be willing to fail at times. You learn more about yourself when you fail. I have failed countless times. But through those failures, I realized that they were preparing for what was to come. This industry is full of ups and downs and the ones that have a true love for the art and take it serious, usually turn out ok. I would also tell any up and coming actor to learn as much as possible. The industry is always changing and evolving and the more you know, the better prepared you’ll be

What does success look like to you?

Success to me has always been making a living while doing something that you absolutely love. That you would do for free. I am so blessed to be where I am in my career. I’ve worked for free. I’ve worked for very little money. I’ve even worked for chicken! Literally!! CHICKEN WINGS!!! HAHAHA!!! But I wouldn’t change any of those moments. I love the art of tv/film making. GOD has blessed me to be in the position that I am in and I do not take it for granted. No matter what else happens in my career, I am blessed

What advice would you give to someone who seeks to become an actor?

You know. I don’t like giving advice to actors. Not because I don’t want them to succeed, but because everyone’s path is different.  I always tell people, “There are 100 ways to get inside of a house.”. I can tell an actor what all I did to get in the business. From getting my degree in theatre, to moving from Indianapolis to Atlanta with only $400 to my name. That doesn’t mean they have to do it too.  It just means that that was my path and it worked for me. Id rather let others watch my journey and if they take something from it that helps them, then good.

Where do you see your career in the next five years?

In five years I see SISTAS being well into syndication. To have a couple of feature films and tv projects under my belt. I would also like to get into the editing process. A lot of people do not realize that film and tv shows are made in the editing room. Something about it fascinates me. And honestly, wherever GOD takes me. He hasn’t failed me.
