Tell us about your company and services.

Dynamic   Therapy provides compassionate and comprehensive services to improve the quality of life for clients with communication disabilities. Founded over 5 years ago in Washington, DC, we offer contract services such as in-service trainings, forensic expert testimonies, English and Spanish speech & language therapy/evaluations to government agencies and schools, and early intervention services. Dynamic Therapy is a minority-owned business and diligently works to address the learning, achievement, and opportunity gap in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Our therapists are skilled in evaluating and treating clients in schools, daycares, clinics, homes, and via tele-practice.

What inspired this career path?

10 years ago, I made the decision to switch my major from journalism to communication sciences and disorders (COSD) due to my love of working with kids (birth – high school). After reviewing my passions, I realized that I had never worked in industries outside of education. Some would say that I was called to become a speech-language pathologist. Once I switched my major, I found that I would have the opportunity to work in a variety of settings and with diverse clients. Additionally, I would always have the chance to learn while utilizing my creativity to directly address the goals of my clients. Moreover, while in school, I found it exciting that I could engage clients in educational and interactive dialogues in and outside of therapy activities.

What has your experience been like to work with students from Howard University?

Since the fall of 2019, we have taken graduate students from Howard University as a way to give back to the University and the department of COSD. While working with Dynamic Therapy, these students have been able to receive exemplary training in the prevention, identification, and remediation of communication disorders. We love working with graduate students as they consistently make a significant impact in the lives of all people by evaluating their capacity and current abilities; determining their needs; and spending therapy time addressing their needs. After thinking back to my graduate experience, I wanted to ensure that students received training and knowledge in areas of finance, supply chain management, business operations, facilities & asset management, human resources, sales & marketing, and communications.

How has Covid-19 impacted your business?

Before COVID-19, Dynamic Therapy had 1 private client. Since March, we have actively gained new clients each month (with a total of 26 clients to date). Thankfully, we applied for insurance companies in January, and since have become credentialed with 7. I am proud to share that 95% of our clients have BlueCross BlueShield. The increase in our caseload has been attributed to families being at home more with their children. Due to the increase in parental observation during academics and social communication, parents are noticing speech and language deficits like never before. The demand for speech and language services will always exist. Fortunately, we are thankful for private insurance companies and Medicaid for subsidizing costs for families.

Share your most proud moment as an entrepreneur.

As an entrepreneur, I am most proud of our graduate clinicians. Our graduate clinicians have played a crucial role in expanding Dynamic Therapy’s current relationship base and have assisted me in executing daily operations. Over the year, they have increased their skills in the following professional areas: market research, business development, Microsoft, social media, creativity, web analytics, google ads, social media marketing, customer relationship management, analytical skills, written communication, creative solutions, and oral & written communication skills.

Where would you like to see your business in the next five years?

In the next 5 years, I would like for Dynamic Therapy to have at least 2 Centers that offer speech & language therapypraxis preparationparent trainingstutoring, a children’s library, and sensory gym. I firmly believe that change is inevitable, and growth is optional, however, with my mission to make a difference in the lives of all people, we have no choice but to grow.
