Exquisite! What an electrifying, no pun intended, week–test drive experience with the ultra-high-Performance Lucid Gravity Grand Touring. The all-electric, full-size luxury SUV is one of the most versatile EVs on the market, offering seating for seven, extended driving range, and the acceleration and dynamics of your favorite sports cars.
The Lucid Gravity, dressed in Grand Touring excitement, has kept me busy since it is a joy to drive. In fact, I was coming up with new reasons to leave the house just to increase my time behind the wheel. Let’s see, I went biking with friends, took the kids and their friends shopping at the Clarksburg Outlets in Maryland, worked on house projects after a few runs to Lowe’s, and showed out with EV enthusiasts, leaving their souls in the rear cabin after “Swift Mode” accelerations. To be specific, 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds!
Based on the original Lucid Space Concept, the exotic three-row Gravity actually conveys the sculpture and interior layout of a minivan more than an SUV, especially when the second row is laid flat and the third row is tucked neatly into the floorboard. For that, you will need to upgrade to the $2,900 3rd-Row Seating package, which incorporates stowable, rear cargo undertray technology. When I spoke with Derek Jenkins, Senior Vice President of Design and Brand, he said there were design challenges transitioning from the supreme sportiness and dynamics of the Lucid Air into those of a utility vehicle. The Gravity, of course, required the capability of off-road adventures, while simultaneously captivating loyalists with stimulating styling and impeccable comfort for the entire family. Mission accomplished!
Outfitted in an intriguing Supernova Bronze Metallic hue, Lucid enhanced Gravity’s sleek and futuristic silhouette with staggered 22″ front/23″ rear wheels and Pirelli P Zero performance tires, a Stealth Appearance Theme, the automaker’s identifiable Glass Canopy Roof, and retractable, illuminating door handles. The $1,000 Platinum Appearance Package adds contrasting character with a Platinum-painted Nose Lighting Blade, side sills, and front and rear lower bumper trim. A power-operated frunk provides additional storage, and the clamshell rear-opening power liftgate features a protrusive spoiler. The frunk can be customized with the optional frunk seat when it is time to chill and lunch by the lake. Also, keep in mind the vehicle sits low, including the tailgate when fully opened. So be careful, as I hit my head twice while unloading the hybrid bikes.
The Lucid Gravity Grand Touring is motivated by an impressive 828-horsepower dual-motor AWD powertrain backed by its Liquid-Cooled Lithium-Ion High Voltage Battery that delivers an electric driving range up to 450 miles (19” wheels) depending on custom configuration. For example, the larger wheel package reduced my overall range (EPA-estimated 386 miles). Owners will most likely install a 240V Level 2 home charger, as I did (ChargePoint Home Flex), but when on the go, Gravity’s 900V+ Electrical Architecture allows up to 200 miles of range in less than 11 minutes at a Level 3 DC Fast Charger. More importantly, Lucid ensured the vehicle was equipped with the updated North American Charging Standard (NACS) Charge Port, originally developed by Tesla.
A few standout performance and regenerative attributes include an automatic and driver-selectable air suspension, Selectable Drive Modes, and driver-adjustable regenerative braking. Smooth mode handles normal, daily cruising; Swift mode turns your Lucid into a BMW 5-Series; and Sprint mode transforms it into an M5! I couldn’t believe how quickly the electric torque propelled us forward. But remain wary, as Swift/Sprint will drain your battery faster. Of course, the Gravity is a utility; thus, Tow mode gives you 6,000 pounds of towing capacity. Additionally, I had the $2,900 Dynamic Handling Package that included Rear-Wheel Steering, a Triple-Chamber Air Suspension, and Titanium-painted brake calipers.
The Gravity, like its sedan sibling, is a tech-defined vehicle featuring remarkable hardware. Yet the vehicle is not without its faults. Lucid’s software tends to go haywire and, in the past, has led Lucid owners to hit social media with a range of complaints, from malfunctioning key fobs to HVAC issues. Based on its UX 3.0 operating system, I noticed a few flaws, including Apple CarPlay, and the driver window repeatedly rolling down after I rolled it up.
Gravity’s Clearview Cockpit features an available augmented reality head-up display, a newly designed horizontally oriented HD Pilot Panel, the $2,900 22-speaker Surreal Sound Pro audio, and an intuitive 34” curved OLED display that sits above the SUV’s new oval steering wheel. All occupants enjoyed the $4,200 Ojai Nappa Leather w/ Luxury Seating Package highlighted by a bevy of benefits, including:
- Nappa Leather Seating Surface (+3rd Row if Equipped)
- Leather Steering Wheel
- 18-Way Power Front Seats (Massage & Ventilated)
- Seatback Tray Tables (Behind 1st Row)
- Walnut Décor, Microsuede Inserts, Microsuede Headliner
- Premium Etched Center Console Glass Cover
Sustainably crafted with eco-consciousness and enlightenment for holistic human engagement, the Lucid Gravity is fascinating in every department. It’s an automotive anomaly from design to range to technology, but you have to pay to play in this EV category. My 2026 Lucid Gravity Grand Touring had an MSRP of $94,900, excluding the $1,650 destination charge, but increased to $126,400 after all upgrades and packages. The warranty remains impressive:
- 4-Year/50,000 Mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty
- 4-Year/50,000 Mile 24-Hour Roadside Assistance
- 8-Year/100,000 Mile High-Voltage Battery Limited Warranty (to 70% Capacity)
