There are moments in life that forever alter the course of our existence—moments that challenge everything we believe about ourselves, our faith, and our future. For entrepreneur, author, and transformational leader Lora L. Banks, MBA, a breast cancer diagnosis became the catalyst for a profound spiritual awakening that would ultimately inspire her powerful new book, The Rise of the Phoenix Within: From Diagnosis to Divine Awakening. Through courage, unwavering faith, and a commitment to honoring her inner truth, Banks embarked on a journey that transcended physical healing and evolved into a mission of empowerment for others. In this candid conversation, she shares the lessons she learned through adversity, the transformative power of self-trust, and how her personal evolution has become the foundation for helping others reclaim their purpose, healing, and divine potential.
What inspired you to write The Rise of the Phoenix Within: From Diagnosis to Divine Awakening, and what do you hope readers will discover about themselves through your story?
The inspiration for this book emerged from a profound crossroads in my life. I found myself standing between what others were telling me and what my spirit was quietly urging me to do. In that sacred space of stillness, I learned to listen to the wisdom that had always existed within me. That experience transformed me in ways I never imagined and revealed truths too powerful to keep to myself.
As a naturally private person, sharing my story was not an easy decision. However, I came to understand that this journey was larger than my own comfort or privacy. Adding to that conviction, three separate individuals, independently of one another, encouraged me to tell my story. For me, that confirmation represented the Holy Trinity affirming my purpose.
My hope is that readers do not simply see my journey—they discover their own. The phoenix is not something we strive to become; it is something that already exists within us. This book serves as an invitation for readers to reconnect with that powerful, resilient part of themselves.
Your breast cancer diagnosis became a defining moment in your life. How did that experience reshape your understanding of faith, resilience, and the power of trusting your inner voice?
My diagnosis transformed faith from a belief system into a daily practice. Before, faith was something I embraced intellectually. Afterward, it became something I embodied with every decision and every step forward.
I learned that resilience is not the absence of fear. I was afraid. There were moments of uncertainty and vulnerability. Yet resilience is the decision to continue moving forward despite those fears. The most significant choice I made was trusting myself above the noise—above opinions, statistics, doubt, and external expectations—and honoring what felt divinely aligned for me.
That decision changed the trajectory of my life and deepened my understanding of what it truly means to trust both God and oneself. It is a lesson I explore extensively throughout the book.
You made a deeply personal decision to pursue a holistic path to healing. What did that journey teach you about self-advocacy, intentional living, and the importance of making informed choices that align with your values?
My healing journey taught me that self-advocacy is not about resistance; it is about self-awareness. It is having the courage to ask difficult questions, seek knowledge, and trust yourself enough to act upon the answers.
I immersed myself in research, explored every resource available, sought wisdom from trusted experts, and prayed fervently for guidance. Ultimately, I made a decision that aligned with my values, my faith, and my deepest sense of self.
Intentional living became a way of life. I became mindful of what I consumed physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I learned that wholeness is not achieved by chance. It is cultivated through conscious choices made consistently and deliberately. Healing, in many ways, is a daily commitment to honoring yourself.
The title of your book speaks to transformation and rebirth. What does “the phoenix within” represent to you, and how can others awaken that same strength during life’s most difficult seasons?
The phoenix within represents the indestructible essence of who we are. It is the part of us that survives adversity, transcends suffering, and emerges stronger because of the fire rather than despite it.
The fire takes many forms. It may appear as illness, grief, loss, disappointment, or a season of profound uncertainty. Whatever shape it takes, the opportunity remains the same: to discover the strength that already resides within.
Awakening that strength begins with going inward. It requires honesty, reflection, and the willingness to confront pain without allowing it to define your identity. My book is both a testimony and a roadmap for navigating that transformative process.
Many people struggle with fear after receiving a life-altering diagnosis. What encouragement would you offer to someone who feels overwhelmed, uncertain, or disconnected from hope?
First, I would tell them that their fear is valid. Fear is a natural human response, and there is no shame in acknowledging it. However, fear should never be allowed to become the author of your story.
Rather than investing your energy in fear, channel that energy into possibility. Become informed. Ask questions. Seek wisdom. Build a support system. Most importantly, trust yourself.
Whatever challenge you are facing, remember that others have walked similar paths and found their way through. You are not alone. Hope often begins with the simple decision to believe that another outcome is possible and that you have the power to influence the direction of your journey.
As the founder of Golden Throne Alchemy LLC, your mission extends beyond your personal story. How are you helping others embrace healing, purpose, and personal empowerment in their own lives?
Golden Throne Alchemy was born directly from my personal transformation. It was created to serve as a bridge for individuals navigating health challenges, life transitions, spiritual awakenings, or seasons of uncertainty.
Through speaking engagements, educational initiatives, my book, and the broader foundation I am building, my mission is to help people recognize the power that already exists within them. I believe healing begins when we remember who we truly are.
The throne is not something we earn through perfection or achievement. It is something we step into through awareness and self-acceptance. My role is simply to help people reclaim what has always belonged to them.
You also founded Brian’s Way, a youth empowerment initiative dedicated to mentorship and creating safer communities. How does your commitment to the next generation reflect your broader vision for healing families and transforming communities?
Brian’s Way is perhaps the most personal expression of my purpose. Established in memory of my beloved son, Brian, it is rooted in the belief that when we invest in young people, we create a ripple effect that strengthens families and transforms communities.
Our mission is centered on mentorship, life skills development, emotional support, and creating environments where young people feel seen, valued, and empowered. Every child deserves to know they matter and that someone believes in their potential.
This vision comes to life through initiatives such as our upcoming 1st Annual Phoenix Legacy of Love Gala, taking place on October 24, 2026, at the Odyssey in Tinley Park. The event celebrates love, legacy, healing, and the transformative impact of community. Through Brian’s Way, we are creating pathways for hope and building a future where every young person has the opportunity to thrive.
Looking ahead, what legacy do you hope The Rise of the Phoenix Within leaves for future generations, and what does living a life of purpose mean to you today?
The legacy I hope this book leaves is the understanding that true healing encompasses the entire human experience—mind, body, and spirit. Healing is not one-dimensional; it requires nurturing all aspects of ourselves.
I hope the book empowers people to ask questions, challenge limitations, and embrace possibilities they may never have considered. If even one person finds the courage to trust themselves when the world is urging them otherwise, then the book has fulfilled its purpose.
Today, living a life of purpose means waking each morning aligned with my authentic self. It means serving others, sharing what I have learned, and demonstrating that transformation is possible. Every step I take is fueled by love, faith, and the legacy of my son Brian. That is my purpose. That is my calling. And it is the work I am honored to do each day.
