Actor Cornelius Wyatt Jr.

What inspired you to become an actor?

I was inspired to act since I was a kid. Always wanting to be the center of attention during family time or gatherings, I found myself  thinking of creative concepts to standout during family recordings.

Tell us about your most recent performance.

My most recent performance was in the Southern Gal Production dramatic play titled “Blu Comes Home.” This compelling play,  based in 1940’s through 1950’s in Macon Georgia. is about a young man who comes home from jail, seeking forgiveness and reconciliation from his family and friends, but he must also forgive.
I play the role of Clarence. He has always held a good job and made lots of money for a Negro male. He is well educated and lives a very upscale life, never wanting for anything and married.  His affair led to a child (Jason) out of wedlock which he mistreats and abandoned his mistress, (Marie) while pregnant. Clarence is a changed man now that he has matured.  He wants desperately to be a part of his son’s life and has observed him from the sideline for many years.  He feels bad for the situation and wants to make things right with her Marie for his son sake. He unexpectedly shows up knocking at Marie’s door and this scene gets explosive.

What kind of preparation did you go through for the performance?

Transformation in this role required in-depth character development from online research to watching movies that dealt with forgiveness. I also worked with an amazingly talented and supportive cast while under the direction of Director Roxanne Reid and Assistant Director Debbie Arnold.

What advice would you give someone who seeks to become an actor?

My advice would be to take advantage of opportunities online and within various social media platforms. Develop a network base with other likeminded individuals to help fuel your growth and don’t be afraid to take risks.

What’s next for your acting journey?

I’m currently seeking out opportunities in film, television, theater. and commercials. I’m also looking forward to attending acting classes in the Washington, DC area this Fall.
