Tell us about your company Fitness Snob.

Fitness Snob is a brand dedicated to merging style and functionality in premium fitness accessories. As a passionate advocate for fitness and a former fitness studio and women’s boutique owner, I founded Fitness Snob to elevate the workout experience through high-quality, stylish products. The brand is committed to offering unique items that not only enhance performance but also make a fashion statement, ensuring that our customers feel confident and motivated during their fitness journeys.

Why is fitness important to you?

As someone who has been involved in fashion and fitness for years, I live by the quote “aging is inevitable, getting old is a choice.” I understand the transformative power of a healthy lifestyle. Fitness helps me maintain balance, manage stress, and stay energized. It’s a way to invest in my future, ensuring I stay active and capable as I age.

Tell us about your products.

Fitness Snob offers a range of premium fitness accessories, with a current focus on the perfect crew socks. Understanding the importance of finishing a look down to the socks and how a stylish look can be a motivating factor when working out, we’ve designed our products to cater to both aesthetics and functionality. Our “Got A Grip Crew” socks are designed for optimal support and stability, featuring a unique grip pattern that sets them apart from other brands, making them perfect for barre, Pilates, and other shoeless workouts. Our “Sheer Confidence Crew” socks blend delicate lace details with tough construction, making them versatile enough to be pretty in sneakers and slides. Additionally, we offer the “Not Your Basic,” “Fifty Fine,” and “All Black” collections to suit various styles and preferences.

What keeps you motivated in such a competitive industry?

What keeps me motivated in this competitive industry is the positive feedback from our customers and the visible impact our products have on their fitness journeys. Knowing that Fitness Snob crews help people feel comfortable about being snobby and owning their fitness journeys fuels my passion. Additionally, the ever-evolving trends in fitness and fashion keep things exciting and challenging. There’s always something new to learn, a fresh idea to explore, and an opportunity to innovate, which keeps me engaged and driven.

What is the most challenging aspect of being an entrepreneur?

The most challenging aspect of being an entrepreneur is managing the uncertainty and risks involved. Every decision, from product development to marketing strategies, carries the potential for significant impact, both positive and negative. Balancing financial management, market competition, and customer expectations can be daunting. Additionally, as a solo entrepreneur, the responsibility of running the company and making critical decisions falls squarely on my shoulders, which makes me wishful for a tight-knit, supportive, and stylish crew.

What does success look like for you?

Success for me is multifaceted. It involves achieving financial stability and growth for Fitness Snob, but it’s also about making a positive impact on people’s lives. Seeing our products become a beloved part of someone’s fitness routine is incredibly rewarding. More than that, having a part in positively changing the perception of what aging looks like is success. Knowing someone is inspired to start working out or keep working out because of me and Fitness Snob means the world. We know that aging is inevitable, but getting old is a choice, and maintaining/building muscle as you age is critical to active longevity. It not only gives the individual a more fulfilling life but also takes the burden off others who would otherwise have to care for them.

How are African Americans managing fitness over 50?

I think it is getting better every day, but we have room for improvement, and not just African Americans. Seeing others who are active tends to be great motivation to get people engaged in regular physical activities such as walking, yoga, and strength training. I think social media has been a big help because people see others their age being extremely active, letting them know it’s possible for them too. Online groups for accountability and encouragement, along with shared resources from online classes to what they are doing in real life, also helps with motivation. People like to say “Black don’t crack,” but the bones can still get frail and brittle, so finding a tight-knit, supportive, and stylish crew and keeping active is key.
