Why did you decide to seek therapy for your mental health?

Because I was having bouts of depression and anxiety due to relationships, business and family.

How has therapy impacted your life?

Therapy has helped me realize to take responsibility for my own actions as well as to forgive others and myself. Also therapy has given me tools to work through my issues when I feel depressed or Im a bad space. Also it has taught me to Protect My Peace.

Tell us about your podcast.

This podcast will expose the traumas that black men have suffer in this country, in our households, in our relationships, in our communities, on our jobs, and everyday walks of life. It’s designed to encourage the next brother to get on the help and support he needs. Hopefully he will seek professional help to help him work through his trauma and issues.

What do you envision success being with your podcast?

I see great Success with this podcast for the simple fact that men, brothers have been waiting for someone to step up to share our hurts,  disappointments, fears and our traumas. Black Men Matter, I believe that families will be brought closer together as a result of black men getting on the couch, I believe that economically Brothers will be able to sustain themselves in the workplace, I also believe that marriages will be healed through this journey of getting on the couch. I think it’s a win-win for our whole community and race.

How have you navigated and processed the street definition of what a man is in our community?

Firstly through being true to myself and and knowing my strengths and my weaknesses and not being afraid to get help and even share it with others. I have been a mentor on the south side of Chicago with organization that I founded called Breaking Bread Male Mentoring.  I’ve tried to reach out not just to my own Sons but sons nephews of our communities. I speak to all of these young men I let them know that I see them and they matter and if I can touch one of them to get their lives back on track and and move forward towards

an abundant life. I feel like I’ve saved their life and for that that’s a win, that’s a victory. As it relates to a definition of a black man, we’ve had so many false labels and bad labels put on us as black men in our families and our communities and in this country but I choose to follow the definition of who God says I am I’m wonderfully made fashion in His image and I can do all things through him that strengthens me.

How does your faith align with your mental health journey?

The Bible says seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all those things will be added unto us. I also know and believe that God has allowed and used people in the medical profession to assist in helping people before it’s time for them to really depart this Earth that they will have a better quality of life. So all things that I do I try to follow Godly principles and the scriptures. Know that All things work together for our Good. To God be the glory.
