Soul singer Alex Harris’ moving version of roots country singer-songwriter Kevin Welch’s “Millionaire,” continuing the time-honored tradition of R&B artists delivering quintessentially soulful versions of country-oriented material. Alex’s Shanachie Debut “Back To Us” is due out on Shanachie on April 12, 2024. The sincerity he brings to his songs, coupled with his riveting story-telling abilities and down-right soulful pipes, have allowed him to grace stages with everyone from Al Green, Aretha Franklin and Kirk Franklin to John Legend, Bobby Rush, and Eric Benet, among others. “Back To Us” promises to be one of the best things to bless music in 2024.

A new generation is creating new iterations of classic soul music, but few artists have generated such immediate excitement as Alex Harris. His voice—a gritty, full-throated sound reminiscent of soul music legends, coupled with a radiant spirit and a completely natural authenticity– is winning the hearts and minds of all who see him. Even at this early stage he has already performed for President Biden and President Obama’s Inaugural Galas and shared the stage with such luminaries as Al Green and Aretha Franklin.  Indeed, Steve Cropper, who as musician, songwriter and producer has worked with legendary Memphis soul greats, gave Alex his “thumbs up” after a joint writing session in Nashville. Cropper says, “…It’s easy to get lost to Alex Harris singing anything.”

Back To Us, is a stunning 11-song collection recording in Nashville featuring sparkling originals and a handful of impressive covers with special guests. Harris has teamed up with an all-star cast of songwriters including Shannon Sanders (John LegendP!nkJill ScottLyle Lovett), Kelvin Welch (Solomon BurkeThe Judds, Garth Brooks), Ruby Amanfu (BeyoncéAlicia KeysBrandi CarlileH.E.R.) and Sam Ashworth (H.E.R., Leslie Odum Jr.), among others.  Harris’ captivating voice coupled with his passionate and sincere songwriting are a winning combination. His own brother David (SwagG R’celiousHarris (Grammy-winning producer of H.E.R. and Alicia Keys) also collaborates on the album as well as long-running funk band Monophonics. In addition to moving originals there are also a few memorable covers.  It takes a lot of courage to cover an Otis Redding ballad but Alex’s powerful versions of Otis’ “I’ve Got Dreams To Remember” as well as Solomon Burke’s “Cry To Me” are revelations.
