Today’s mid-size SUV segment is highly competitive, requiring a combination of versatility, technology, and performance. Launched in 2023, the 2024 Kia Sorento X-Pro SX-Prestige 2.5T strives to excel in all areas. It showcases a striking design and delivers performance for both on-road comfort and light off-road adventures.
The 2024 Sorento features a sharper redesign with contemporary aesthetics. It stands out on the streets thanks to a revised front fascia with vertical headlamps and a prominent grille. Integrated LED tail lamps and a redesigned rear bumper finalize the updated appearance.
Once inside the Kia Sorento X-Pro, you’re surrounded by high-quality materials that create a luxurious atmosphere, complemented by a dual 12.3-inch curved display that spans the dashboard. The digital instrument cluster and infotainment system are seamlessly integrated, offering user-friendly visual access to entertainment, navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Power/ Performance: The Kia Sorento X-Pro Prestige 2.5T is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that produces 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive complements the power, providing smooth and responsive shifts.
The upgraded Sorento X-Pro’s steering was precise, and the ride was steady and smooth on highways and rough surfaces. Kia engineers clearly prioritized comfort and handling. Various drive modes allow the driver to switch from Sports to Snow mode, which was especially useful during the heavy snow on the East Coast.
Sorento Models: The Kia Sorento offers five model configurations: LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-Prestige. The X-Pro ($47,390 MSRP) is a $1,000 package added to the top-of-the-line SX Prestige. The model tested included numerous features, such as X-Pro 17-inch all-terrain tires, alloy wheels, Bose Premium audio, leather seat trim, and more towing capacity.
Other conveniences include heated seats in the front and second rows, a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade, and a collection of advanced driver-assistance features such as Lane-Keep Assist, Driver-Attention Warning, Navigation with Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Avoidance, and Parking Distance Alerts. The vehicle also features a Surround-View Monitor to enhance visibility around the SUV.
The X-Pro package increases the Sorento’s ground clearance from 6.9 to 8.2 inches, enhancing its ability to handle light off-road adventures. To improve off-road traction, the X-Pro replaces the standard 20-inch wheels with 17-inch BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain tires, which also enhance traction on snow and icy surfaces.
Fuel Economy: According to the EPA, the Sorento has a combined fuel economy of 23 MPG, with 20 city and 27 highway MPG.
