Tell us about your education.

I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for my undergraduate and graduate education. I have been an educator for 12 years, and I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, a master’s degree in Special Education, and a certification in English Language. I have taught 3rd grade, 4th grade, Special Education (K-8), and English as a Second Language (ESL). I currently serve as an ESL teacher and testing coordinator.

Because I believe education never stops, I obtained a  National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer certification as I pursued my interests in health.

What inspires you to be a teacher?

I know that a part of my purpose is to serve and inspire others. I learned that at an early age. I come from a big family where the importance of family and community was instilled in me. I love to watch children grow in every aspect of their lives, and I love having an opportunity to support them on their overall journey.

Being an educator is not an easy task. Every day is challenging. However, for every challenge, there is a rewarding experience. My students truly inspire me to be better every day.  I believe each child has something special to offer this world, and I am blessed to be able to help guide them in the direction of success.

I feel the same way about women and their challenges. It is one of the reasons I chose to integrate my passion for teaching with my other passion for mental and physical health. Women face many health barriers. It is one of the reasons why I volunteer with Girls on the Run. I start with girls and transition that passion to training women before and after school hours.

Why is fitness so important to you?

Fitness became my passion about ten years ago, and I have been training for about five years. I started working on my goals and became passionate about helping others reach their wellness goals. My journey to overcoming a negative body image led me to want to support other women. I started working out to keep myself in shape, but over time it became much more than working out.

Being active is a major key to creating change in physical, emotional, and mental health. We live in a world where society tries to tell us that only a certain look is beautiful. This leads many to believe they are not good enough.  I think focusing on all aspects of yourself is important to be whole and healthy. Being an educator has prepared me to be an effective coach in many ways. I am dedicated to balancing both worlds and ultimately finding a way to make them collide! My personal training business is a first step in that direction.

When working with a client, what can they expect from your training?

I believe in the power of meeting people where they are. They can join HustleHer in person, online through the HustleHer app, or a hybrid. All workouts are tailored specifically to the client and based on their needs. Clients participate in weekly check-ins and bi-weekly accountability chats, where we discuss goals, accomplishments, struggles, and more openly. HustleHer has truly grown into a community of people encouraging each other to be our best selves.

Where would you like to see your career in the next five years?

In the next five years, I hope to see my career in education and my passion for fitness and wellness collide. I hope to continue to create a space for women to grow and meet their goals and eventually begin to serve youth girls in a similar capacity. I would love to teach young girls to be confident and holistically love themselves.

Ultimately, I want to set up a business that allows women and girls to enter where they fit in. I want to walk alongside them on their journey. It feeds my soul to see others succeed. Educational fitness and health are my tools.
