What was it like meeting with members of Congress on Capitol Hill?
Meeting members of Congress on Capitol Hill was an honor. It truly felt like reaching the pennical of my efforts to change the lives of minority youth in the U.S. as it relates to aviation. Their time meant the possibility of change and that ultimately means impact beyond what I could ever imagine.
Why did you feel it was necessary to lobby on Capitol Hill?
It was necessary for me to meet with Congress as the top-down approach proves to be more effective. Aviation supports 5% of the economy at 1.8 trillion. African American make up 13.6% of the U.S. demographic yet only make up 3% of the pilot workforce. Airlines are in need of hiring 13,000 pilots in 2023 alone and the average cost of a Commercial Pilot’s license is 100k. This issue should on the floor of Congress.
How will The Brock Foundation, Inc. benefit from this experience?
Minority youth will benefit from this experience and that was my intent. The conversations held should raise awareness and hopefully garner governmental reform and support.
What made your visit to Capitol Hill a success?
The visit to Capitol Hill was a success as many Congressman and Congresswomen met, saw the value of having a program like the Brock Foundation in their state and district.
How has this experience impacted your dream for the foundation?
This experience impacted my dreams for the foundation as it solidified my belief that anything is possible. I led the Capitol Hill recharged to do more work to help tomorrow’s aerospace professionals.
What’s next for The Brock Foundation, Inc.?
Next, the Brock Foundation will scale and increase our reach as aviation and our program should be available for youth all over the U.S.
The Brock Foundation, Inc. our goal is to promote initiatives that serve inner-city minority children as it relates to career discovery in aviation. We believe in taking action with urgency in order to raise public awareness about inclusivity in the aerospace industry. Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a measurable difference in the lives of others.
