What type of training is required to work in this wellness space?
To work in the wellness space as a certified Colon Hydrotherapist, it is important enroll in an accredited school or with an instructor and ensure training meets National Occupational Standards and Core Curriculum for Colon Hydrotherapy. Basic training typically involves a 100-hour course from an I-ACT-approved instructor or a National Board-approved school. More advanced education may require 500 to 1000 hours. It’s highly recommended to get certified by the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy (I-ACT) and comply with FDA equipment regulations.
While most states don’t regulate colon hydrotherapy licenses, Florida and North Carolina do require licensure. If anyone is considering colon hydrotherapy as a profession, I believe it’s important to have a true passion for health, wellness and customer service. As with any career, you should be dedicated, compassionate and have a sense of joy when caring for others.
What inspired you to specialize in colon hydrotherapy, and what impact have you seen it have on your clients’ overall health?
Chronic constipation and other digestive problems had me in and out of hospitals. I was constantly on medication but nothing seemed to work. After dealing with my own digestive issues, I knew that I needed to be proactive and take charge of my health. It wasn’t until I discovered Colon Hydrotherapy that I truly began to see a difference. This practice, along with a cleaner diet and healthier lifestyle, has been life-changing. I’m passionate and always excited when sharing its benefits with others. It’s not just a passion—it’s my journey to make a positive impact on my health and the lives of others.
Although I’m not a doctor, I’ve seen firsthand the amazing benefits of Colon Hydrotherapy for my clients. Many have reported significant improvements, including better sleep, increased energy, and clearer skin. Some clients find that their chronic constipation and sluggish digestion improved once they noticed a reduction in bloating and a flatter tummy; while others noticed that their energy levels soared after just one session.
The benefits don’t stop there clients have also experienced better concentration and a reduction in skin conditions like acne and eczema. By cleansing the colon, the body can better absorb nutrients and eliminate toxins, leading to healthier skin and improved immune function. Overall, regular sessions have not only helped with weight loss and constipation but will result in stronger immune systems and a reduced risk of digestive issues in the future. It’s truly been life-changing for many!
Many people are unfamiliar with colon hydrotherapy. Can you explain what it is and how it works?
Colon hydrotherapy is an advanced and more thorough form of an enema. This process involves gently hydrating the large intestine with warm water to cleanse the colon by removing accumulated waste, toxins, and excess gases.
This treatment helps rejuvenate the body, increase energy levels, improve circulation, and promote restful sleep. It also supports the immune system, as a significant 70-80% of our immune function resides in the colon, creating an optimal environment for healthy gut flora. Regular colon hydrotherapy sessions can alleviate constipation, reduce bloating, and improve concentration and skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema.
By detoxifying the colon, you enhance the body’s ability to fight illness, reverse disease, and establish healthier habits. I firmly believe that a few sessions of colon hydrotherapy can help reverse the effects of years of neglect!
There are often misconceptions about colon cleansing. What are some of the biggest myths, and what would you say to people who may be hesitant to try it?
Many people have misconceptions about colon hydrotherapy, and some of the most common myths include fears that it’s dangerous, painful, or embarrassing. However, these concerns are often based on misinformation.
First, colonics are not dangerous when performed by a trained professional. In fact, colon hydrotherapy is a safe, drug-free method for detoxing the body and cleansing the colon, with no harmful side effects. It’s far less invasive and more effective than using laxatives or other treatments for digestive issues.
As for discomfort, while the initial insertion may feel slightly strange, the treatment itself is generally very gentle. Some mild discomfort may occur when releasing toxins, but it’s short-lived and followed by a sense of relief and relaxation.
We often introduce various toxins and unhealthy substances into our bodies, which can take a toll on our overall health. At times, it’s necessary to embrace temporary discomfort in a beneficial way, allowing our bodies to release built up impurities and ultimately restore comfort and balance.
Regarding embarrassment, colon hydrotherapy is a private and non-judgmental experience. The procedure is discreet, and the therapist is there to support and guide you, much like any other health professional. The focus is on your health, not the temporary awkwardness.
Finally, colonics aren’t just for constipation. They’re beneficial for various conditions, including IBS, anxiety, and even improving mood and energy levels. Regular sessions help maintain a healthy digestive system and overall well-being.
If you’re hesitant, remember that colon hydrotherapy is a safe and effective way to support your body’s natural detox processes, with benefits that far exceed the myths surrounding it. Additionally, consider this analogy from urologist, Dr. Eugene Rajaratnam: putting the wrong fuel in your body is like putting diesel in a gasoline-powered car you would never do that, yet we often put harmful substances into our bodies. Everything we consume ultimately impacts our gut, which plays a crucial role in our overall health.
How does digestive health impact overall wellness, and what role does colon hydrotherapy play in maintaining a healthy gut?
Overall wellness begins with a healthy gut! This journey is about understanding the importance of education and relearning what we thought we knew. It’s imperative that you are aware of the choices you make that contributes to the destruction of gut health. Everything in life requires balance. The digestive system is no different! It is responsible for many functions including: absorbing nutrients, waste elimination , and where good bacteria should thrive. Any disruption leads to the beginning of health challenges.
Beyond colon hydrotherapy, you also focus on wellness through supplements and vitamins. What are some key nutrients people should prioritize for optimal health?
Proper nutrition is required for optimal health. However, vital nutrients are what’s lacking in a diseased state. Lack of nutrition contributes to symptoms of fatigue, the number one complaint of illness/disease.
The ultimate goal is to first obtain nutrition from a quality food source that’s organic and or non-gmo. Aside from natural food sources, one should include vitamins, minerals, omega 3 fatty acids, quality protein source, dietary fiber, medicinal mushrooms and distilled water daily. It’s about being consistent and giving your body what it needs at least four to five days a week.
I always recommend Liposomal forms of supplementation to my clients. It is easily absorbed in the gut and delivered straight to your body’s cells. Liposomal delivery ensures that nutrients are protected from degradation and destruction in the harsh environment of the gastrointestinal tract. This form of delivery is stable, enhances absorption and improves bioavailability.
One must do their homework to find out as much information about desired products. You want to research reputable companies committed to creating the highest quality products true to Mother Nature. I recommend buying from companies that believe in ethical and responsible business practices. Always read labels and seek only those products made with minimal high-quality ingredients. Ingredients should be free of heavy metals, pesticides, and herbicides.
With so many supplements on the market, how can someone determine what’s truly beneficial versus what might be unnecessary or ineffective?
When it comes to supplementation, you must keep in mind that more is not always better! Many supplements are poorly absorbed and utilized in the body.
Vitamin deficiency can have many causes. In such cases, supplements can be beneficial. Blood tests can be used to evaluate a person’s nutritional status and detect nutritional deficits. This would allow for a more informed decision that’s tailored to address specific needs and yield the best possible results for each individual.
What are some signs that someone may need colon hydrotherapy or additional support for their digestive health?
Irregular bowel movements, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, malabsorption, and fatigue are common signs that the digestive system is in need of help.
For those looking to improve their gut health naturally, what daily habits or lifestyle changes would you recommend?
- Earthing/grounding daily
- Hydrate with plenty of water with electrolytes / minerals
- Breathe/meditate
- Avoid chemical and environmental toxins found in food, drugs, chlorine, fluoride, cosmetics, and household products, etc.
- Exercise
- Get plenty of rest
- Laugh more
- Forgive
- Limit stress
Hydration and diet play a major role in digestive wellness. What are your top recommendations for maintaining a clean and balanced system?
Our body is 80% water. Therefore every process in our body requires water to function. That being said, we all must prioritize drinking more distilled water on a daily basis. Eat more fruit daily to obtain energy and live fiber.
To create a healthy gut environment you should eliminate gluten from your diet.
How do emotional and mental well-being connect to gut health, and what steps can people take to create a more holistic approach to wellness?
Emotional and mental well-being are closely linked to gut health through the gut-brain axis, a communication pathway between the gut and the brain. Stress and negative emotions can disrupt gut bacteria, leading to digestive issues like bloating and constipation, while a healthy gut supports emotional stability and mood regulation.
To foster a more holistic approach to wellness, managing stress through mindfulness practices, exercising regularly, eating a balanced diet, and getting enough rest are key. Positive relationships, practicing gratitude, and seeking support when needed also contribute to overall well-being.
Since about 90% of serotonin, the “feel-good” neurotransmitter, is produced in the gut, its health directly affects mood and mental health. A balanced gut helps maintain serotonin production, while disruptions can lead to mood issues like anxiety or depression. Keeping the gut healthy is crucial not only for digestion but also for maintaining emotional balance.
I oftentimes joke that the angriest people in the world are simply full of crap-literally. Whenever I encounter a disrespectful person, I remind myself that they could probably benefit from a colonic to help release some of that built-up stress.
What is one piece of advice you would give to someone just beginning their journey toward better digestive health and overall wellness?
First and foremost, health begins with you. Not a magic pill. Optimal health and healing is a way of life. You must be willing to make smarter choices that consist of eating organically grown fruits and vegetables and develop a happy and positive mindset. Everything starts with belief. If you believe you will heal and become healthier, indeed you will. The process takes time. However, as long as you make small consistent changes, you will see huge results. Always believe in yourself and never give up. Remember that tomorrow affords us an opportunity to start fresh and give our all while keeping our eyes on the prize
