How did you begin playing golf?

I was introduced to golf in high school however I elected not play, I didn’t think it was cool and I didn’t know anyone who looked like me that played. Some 20 years later I was re introduced to me again. By this time I knew several people that looked like me who played. I bought some clubs at a yard sale and went to the driving range and fell in love with the sport.

Tell us about your team/club membership.

One of my coworkers invited me to play golf with him and his friends, they all belonged to a golf club called Inland Empire Golf Club which is part of Western States Golf Association. This is an organization established in 1954 for African-American players. Our club is now open to all ethnicities along with gender. We don’t have any youth in our club as of yet but we support other clubs that have junior golf program.

Tell us about your favorite gam/tournament and why?

My favorite game is seeing who’s mentally toughest and smarter on the golf course. I’m usually not the best golfer in my group nor do I hit the ball the furthest but I make better decisions and play within myself. The best part of golf are the relationships you develop and socializing at the 19th hole(lounge).

My favorite tournament is the WSGA annual tournament because of the beauty of the course and the surrounding nature.

In playing golf as much as you do, what have you learned about yourself?

I’m the most competitive person I know and has been that way since I was young, playing golf has taught me that it’s not about winning all the time, it’s about the experience, the opportunity, the relationships, appreciating mother nature and making the right decisions.

What’s next for you in the world of golf?

Golf is extremely important for our youth, it will challenge them mentally as well as physical and emotionally.  It will assist and teach them lessons about life and themselves that will last a lifetime.
