Visitors are coming back to Israel after a very long absence.

Below are 18 hotels in Tel Aviv-Jaffa to start you off. As anyone who’s been to the White City knows, there are hotels everywhere — 11,600 rooms in 181 hotels — in addition to many Airbnb rentals.

Thousands more rooms are planned in the next few years, with new properties such as the 880-room Sarona Hotel now under construction.

Let’s start off with two of the newest options.

This 52-room boutique hotel, opened in July 2021, was designed by Yoav Messer in homage to the 1950s-era I.L. Peretz Library and bookstore that once stood here as a center of Yiddish culture. The building itself resembles a stack of books. Inside, interior designer Yaron Tal installed old inkwells and a neon library sign in Yiddish. A huge typewriter hangs above the lobby’s Asian fusion restaurant, and even the rooms feature newspaper-printed wallpaper.

Opened in 2016, Poli House is next to Carmel Market and the Nahalat Binyamin craft fair.

It later served as a British military headquarters and a shelter for World War II refugees. Situated in South Tel Aviv’s American-German Colony, The Drisco has 42 rooms, some offering views of the Mediterranean and others overlooking Jaffa or the hotel’s courtyard. A second historic building, a three-story wood structure renamed The Villa Drisco, has a five-room suite and Maine-style porches.
