GWRCCC Completes Five-Year Electrification Project to Expand EV Access Across Mid-Atlantic

Washington, DC–The Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition (GWRCCC), in collaboration with over 25 partners, has successfully completed a five-year Mid-Atlantic Electrification Project (MAEP) awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The multi-million initiative aimed to establish a comprehensive regional electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem across the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

This collaborative project has yielded several noteworthy accomplishments, including: 1) the launch of an EV Ride Hailing Program deploying 100 vehicles in partnership with BGE & Lyft, 2) 100 outreach and education efforts targeting underserved communities, 3) support for small businesses through information on grant opportunities, 4) provision of resources, training, and workforce development—particularly for members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), 5) technical assistance and educational initiatives with government agencies and municipalities, faith-based organizations and not for profits, and 6) strategic EV planning and mapping activities.

“We recognize the ongoing need to enhance access to EV charging infrastructure in key underserved communities within our region. Building robust partnerships between the private and public sectors remains one of the most effective strategies for generating positive impacts in those neighborhoods and communities, stated,” Antoine M. Thompson, CEO & Executive Director of GWRCCC.
