Alliance for Women’s Health and Prevention Deeply Concerned Over U.S. District Court’s Decision to Strike Down a Key Affordable Care Act Provision Protecting Preventive Health

March 30, 2023 (Washington, DC) — A federal judge in Texas struck down a key provision in the Affordable Care Act that mandates insurers provide certain preventive services for free, including screenings for cancer and other chronic diseases as well as certain pregnancy care services.

Millicent Gorham, CEO and Board Chair, Alliance for Women’s Health & Prevention:

“Today’s ruling meaningfully undermines access to health services that reduce and prevent the burden and progression of disease. Reliable, equitable and consistent access to high-quality preventive care is already an unmet need experienced by far too many women and girls in this country. The court’s decision to eliminate this key coverage mandate will only create another barrier to care.”
